Same as before.
October
1-3.10 – THE X-FILES S6E13-15
5.10 – HOW TO WITH JOHN WILSON S3E1 (dnf)
7.10 – HOW TO WITH JOHN WILSON S3E1, LOVE IS BLIND S5E8-9
8-9.10 – THE X-FILES S6E16
10.10 – finished playing “Ghost of Tsushima” (PS4) with 45 hours in; really enjoyed this game, it is very cinematic and i found the story to be more engaging than Horizon’s. also the gameplay is less tombraider-y and has a more involved combat system, which are both pluses for me; the side quests and elements were well thought out and did not feel distracting at all. pet a fox!
11.10 – THE X-FILES S6E17-18
13.10 – THE X-FILES S6E19, LOVE IS BLIND S5Е10
17.10 – saw UNIDA and
18.10 – THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER S1E1-8 (i know, i know)
19.10 – WHAT LIES BENEATH (2000), THE X-FILES S6E20 (dnf)
21.10 – a little concert with some friends
22.10 – THE X-FILES S6E20
23.10 – THE X-FILES S6E21-22 (season finale)
26.10 – BODIES S1E1-8 (i know, i know – in my defense i slept through a lot of it) – not great, not terrible; the generational time travel is a lot like DARK, and even though that show had the better first season, not overcomplicating and overexpanding with multiple seasons is the superior way; played some “Shadow Tactics” (PC)
27.10 – COLUMBO S9E5-6 (dnf)
28.10 – COLUMBO S9E6 (season finale)
29.10 – COLUMBO S10E1 (dnf)
30.10 – COLUMBO S10E1-3 (dnf)
November
1.11 – COLUMBO S10E3 (season finale), HEATHERS (1989)
3.11 – THE EXORCIST* (1973) in theater! still great
4.11 – HOW TO WITH JOHN WILSON S3E2-3
5.11 – played some “Shadow Tactics” (PC) and “Darkside Detective: Fumble in the Dark” (PC)
6.11 – THE EXORCIST 3 (1990), different but also great
7.11 – HOW TO WITH JOHN WILSON S3E4
8.11 – HOW TO WITH JOHN WILSON S3E5-6 (season finale), THE REHEARSAL S1E1-6 (i know, i know)
9.11 – played some “Darkside”, tried THE NINTH CONFIGURATION (1980) (dnf)
10.11 – SORRY TO BOTHER YOU (2018)
11.11 – THE NINTH CONFIGURATION (1980)
12.11 – THE KILLER (2023) – much better than most people give it credit for, but that’s mostly because they have some fetish for david fincher, JASON X (2001) (dnf)
13.11 – JASON X (2001), PANIC ROOM (2002)
14.11 – ALL FUN AND GAMES (2023) in theater – very middle of the road, however! 76 minutes long!
15.11 – BOOGIE NIGHTS (1997), BULLET TRAIN (2022) – my review was going to be “do you think that brad pitt had to use a body double for that shot where he gets his shoe wet” but then there was also a wide shot of that so my review is now “do you think that brad pitt had to use cg for that shot where he gets his shoe wet”
18.11 – a little concert with some friends
20-21.11 – BLUE EYE SAMURAI S1 – it’s mostly really, really good! the finale was underwhelming but that’s when i remembered this is supposed to be a series and not an 8-hour long movie. also made me think of playing “Ghost of Tsushima” again.
23.11 – ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE (2013) it’s a vibe, as the zombies would say
23-24.11 – HALF-LIFE: 25TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY DOCUMENTARY (2023) it’s well produced, its subject matter is still relevant, and it is almost poignant a couple of times. it does a good job of reminding us (me) just how different and more constrained video games were 25 years ago. also: 65 minutes long!
24-25.11 – COLUMBO S11E1
26.11 – AWAKENINGS (1990) in theater, COLUMBO S11E2-3 (dnf)
28.11 – COLUMBO S11E3, COLUMBO S12E1 (dnf)
29.11 – COLUMBO S12E1 – it was fun to see Faye Dunaway hit on good old Lt. Columbo and even get a smooch or two! who knew!
this month i also got back to playing “Jagged Alliance 2” (PC), and also started listening to the “Press Play” podcast when walking my dog. for me, but also for a lot of people online, the gateway episode seems to be #158 The Case of the Missing Hit
December
1-2.12 – SHIN GODZILLA (2016) – great!
3.12 – THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987) – timothy dalton is such a cool bond – shame they only made two with him.
4.12 – started watching the latest hbomberguy video on plagiarism (at 4 am no less), it’s great
5.12 – LICENCE TO KILL (1989) – it’s much more even in both tone and pacing than the last one; it has a chase with tanker trucks; it has a head explosion.
6.12 – CATCHFIRE (1990) – certifiably insane. hands down the most unrealistic thing in it was charlie sheen dating jodie foster even for a minute.
8.12 – THE FUGITIVE* (1993) – still holds up beautifully
11.12 – MAY DECEMBER (2023)
14.12 – ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13* (1976) – short, fun and to the point. CHEAP. sometimes tasteful. you know the film is good when the review could apply to a falafel sandwich.
15.12 – finished reading Choke by Chuck Palahniuk
18.12 – FLEABAG S1E1-6
24.12 – LOVE ACTUALLY* (2003) – it was on tv, dubbed, and i was not so much watching as i was listening. an enjoyable experience but not really due to the movie.
25.12 – HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE (2001) – it was on tv & there was a chess scene. never seen an HP movie before and gonna keep not seeing more.
26.12 – FLEABAG S2E1-6
27-28.12 – COLUMBO S12E2-3, played some “Tactics Ogre: Reborn” (PS)
29.12 – COLUMBO S13E1
30.12 – BASIC INSTINCT* (1992) – “the perfect 80s thriller doesn’t exi—” yeah, so big deal if it was released in 1992. paul verhoeven is the goat btw and his hollywood run is unmatched.
31.12 – SORCERER (1977), THE FRENCH CONNECTION (1971) – leaving a silly year behind with a friedkin double feature.
I’ve been coerced lovingly persuaded to join Letterb*xd by a dear friend, and I already have a G**dreads for the five (comic) books I read per year, and no one cares what games I play, so this may be the last Seen, read posted here for a while (ever?). Among other things, this means that I should probably start writing actual content for this site. We will see how this turns out.
