Seen, read 2023: Q1

Same as before.

January
1.1 – 7 WOMEN AND A MURDER (2021), not sure why we started and/or finished this – it felt like a poorly written KNIVES OUT remake (but turns out it’s actually a poorly written remake of another movie). Played some more “Advance Wars” (GBA) and finished the tutorial missions, started the actual campaign!
2.1 – a lot of THE ULTIMATUM FRANCE, and it’s really so much worse than the original (and that’s not that great to begin with)
3.1 – NOBODY (2022), not bad as far as John Wick knockoffs go; a lot of “Advance Wars” and finally managed to copy my last save state from the original Odroid Go to the Odroid Go Super
5.1 – finished the “Advance Wars” campaign – really happy with this game – and started playing “Policenauts” (PS1)
9.1 – COLUMBO S1E8, RICOCHET (1991) (dnf)
10.1 – RICOCHET (1991), “Gyakuten Saiban” (GBA) (also known as Ace Attorney) cases 1-2
11.1 – “Gyakuten Saiban” (GBA) case 3 (case 4 not translated to English yet, so this is finished for now)
12-17.1 – probably seen the majority of 1899 S1 around this time
18.1 – RESIDENT EVIL: INFINITE DARKNESS E1-E4 (didn’t really care for that one, but at least it was short)
19.1 – COLUMBO S2E1
20-23.1 – COLUMBO S2E2, 1899 S1 (finished)
26.1 – COLUMBO S2E3
29.1 – TIMECOP* (1994)
30-31.1 – COLUMBO S2E4, WHITE NOISE (2022) – finally finished this on what feels like the 20th attempt. Perhaps the least necessary film of all time, and such a shame as the book is near perfect. It starts OK but it gets worse as it drags on, especially post-toxic event. Would have been so much better if it was somehow made into a Stallone action flick, or if Adam Driver was replaced by Adam Sandler. Just hate this, no further comments.

(this month has been a mess journaling-wise as we took in a stray dog, put it up for adoption, and then had to drive it across the country to its new family)

February
1-2.2 – COLUMBO S2E5, PAMELA: A LOVE STORY (2023) (dnf)
3.2 – COLUMBO S2E6-E7
5.2 – COLUMBO S2E8
6.2 – COLUMBO S3E1, ARE YOU THE ONE? S9E1-E4, CUNK ON EARTH S1E1
8.2 – NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE* (2001), COLUMBO S3E2
9.2 – COLUMBO S3E3
10.2 – ARE YOU THE ONE? S9E5, LOVE IS BLIND S3E13-15
11.2 – COLUMBO S3E4, CUNK ON EARTH S1E2 (dnf)
13.2 – TICKLED (2016) this was recommended to me by a dear friend and as expected it was a disturbing watch
14.2 – THE PERFECT MATCH S1E1
15.2 – THE PERFECT MATCH S1E2-E4
16-17.2 – COLUMBO S3E5-6
18.2 – played some board games with friends (CONCORDIA)
20.2 – THE BOYS S3E1
21.2 – THE BOYS S3E2, COLUMBO S3E7 (dnf)
22-24.2 – COLUMBO S3E7, S3E8 (dnf), THE PERFECT MATCH S1E5-E8, BUNUEL: A SURREALIST FILMMAKER (2022) in the theater – there are video essays on YT that are far better than this documentary but interesting subject matter ofc
28.2 – THE PERFECT MATCH S1E9-E12

March
1.3 – SEXY BEASTS S2E1-E6
2-3.3 – SEXY BEASTS S1E1-E5
4.3 – COLUMBO S3E8, SEXY BEASTS S1E6, 91/2 WEEKS (1986) – funny little movie, but mostly made me think how much better ANGEL HEART was
5.3 – A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS (1987)
6.3 – FLATLINERS (1990), CHRISTINE (1983)
7-16.3 – once again, this period is a mess, but I tried watching VENUS WARS (1989) (dnf) a couple of times and saw THE X-FILES S4E16-18
17.3 – THE X-FILES S4E19 (dnf)
18.3 – THE X-FILES S4E19-20
19.3-20.3 THE X-FILES S4E21-22, THE LONG GOODBYE (1973) (dnf)
21.3 – THE X-FILES S4E23 (dnf), THE LONG GOODBYE (1973) – the camera drifting away or zooming in and out in literally every. single. shot! did strike me as an inspired choice but also Gould as Marlowe was pitch perfect and also some great dialogue here and there but kinda feels like the best bits may not have been in the source material – anyway, will have to get to that last Marlowe novel sooner or later.
22.3 – THE X-FILES S4E23-24
23.3 – THE X-FILES S5E1-2
24.3 – COLUMBO S4E1
26.3 – COLUMBO S4E2
27.3 – LOVE IS BLIND S4E1-5, COLUMBO S4E3 (dnf)
28.3 – COLUMBO S4E3
29.3 – COLUMBO S4E4, ЕРГЕНЪТ S2E?
30.3 – COLUMBO S4E5 (dnf), ЕРГЕНЪТ S2E?
31.3 – COLUMBO S4E5, HARD TARGET* (1993) (dnf)

All in all, I’m so happy I started watching Columbo – it is truly the greatest cop show ever, as he is the greatest cop there is. It’s a very good soup for the soul and I guess I needed it.
